The artists’ book Serpents, published by Spaceheater Editions, is a visual and poetic rant about the societal turmoil going on in The Year of the Snake, 2025. The core of the book is a well-known poem by the late Bern Porter, a poet, artist, and philosopher associated with the avant-garde Mail Art and Found Poetry movements. The book is in two volumes, the primary book featuring Porter’s poem, plus an “Addendum” or index of some of the culprits who have contributed to the current state of affairs.
The heart of Serpents is the wonderful alphabetical poem-rant by the late Bern Porter (1911-2004). He wrote it in 1975, and although the title is not mentioned in the text of the book, Porter called the poem The Last Acts of Saint FuckYou. The swamp photographs were taken by Zimmermann in the bayous of Louisiana, and the Costa Rica rain forest in 2019 and 2022.
